In order to implement the Belt and Road Initiative, promote the communication among the people of the countries and regions along the Belt and Road, and create new opportunities for the development of media, China International Television Corporation established the Belt and Road Media Community in August 2016. By far, the Community has developed 98 members and partners from 48 countries and regions, including broadcasters, film and television producers and distributors, video websites, and area-based international cooperation organizations such as Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, and carried out extensive and practical cooperation in the fields of program simulcasting, overseas Chinese program channel and slot construction, international co-production, personnel training, “Golden Ribbon” outstanding program selection, etc.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Belt and Road Media Community Summit Forum has been successfully held for two consecutive years, been formally listed in the annual Sino-foreign media forum plan of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for three consecutive years, and become a comprehensive media forum highly recognized by the industry. With “promoting the media development with innovations” as the common appeal, and “deepening the mutual trust among the countries and regions along the Belt and Road” as the common mission, the participants from all over the world have coordinated their positions, rallied efforts and addressed challenges all together around their common major topics in terms of deepening the cooperation mechanism, strengthening the content cooperation, and promoting the integrated communication.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Summit Forum will be held in Xi’an on September 11-13, 2018, based on the theme of “new era, new achievements, new breakthroughs”, aiming to expand the cooperation with G7 countries while consolidating existing achievements.

The Summit Forum is guided by the State Administration of Radio and Television, hosted by China Media Group, organized by China International Television Corporation, and China Radio, Film and Television Programs Exchanging Center, and co-organized by Xi’an Broadcasting Station, and plans to invite about 300 guests, including the leaders of China Media Group and State Administration of Radio and Television, leaders of Shaanxi Province and Xi’an City, major members and partners of the Community, including nearly 100 international guests. The Summit Forum consists of the main events and auxiliary events. The main events include the main forum, the member promotion and the one-on-one meetings, while the auxiliary events include the “Golden Ribbon” outstanding short documentary selection results announcement, the program trading pavilion and the Silk Road starter city culture experiencing.

As China’s state-level modern media carrier, China Media Group has become an important force in the international media relationship and plaid an active builder of the international media system. The Summit Forum this year is the first one to be hosted by China Media Group, and is an opportunity for China Media Group to make a collective appearance at an international television media cooperation forum since its official establishment. The Summit Forum plans to set up a special display area for China Media Group in the program trading pavilion, promote China Media Group’s relevant channels, frequencies and new media in the member promotion session, and invite China Media Group’s finance, science and education, documentary, Chinese international channels and CGTN channels to communicate with overseas members of the Community in the one-on-one meetings session, thus to help China Media Group enhance the international influence and expand the business cooperation channels. International organizations and mainstream media including Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Arab States Broadcasting Union, African Union of Broadcasting, UNESCO, All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), and Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) expressed strong willingness to establish closer cooperative relationship and carry out deeper communication and cooperation with China Media Group. The relevant channels, frequencies and new media of China Media Group will actively participate in and cooperate with the publicity and media coverage of the Summit Forum.
